When you are faced with an uphill or downhill lie, a successful shot requires some adjustment to your normal play from an even lie. With a basic uphill or downhill lie, address the ball so that the majority of your weight is on the downhill foot and your shoulders are parallel to the slope of the ground. Addressing the ball with these adjustments will allow the club to swing along the slope.
Club selection is important and depends on whether it is an uphill or downhill lie. With an uphill lie, the slope of the ground will cause a higher launch of the ball and you will not be able to complete your swing to a balanced finish over your front leg. Choose at least one more club than normal for the yardage. With a downhill lie, your address position effectively de-lofts the club and the ball will be launched with a lower flight than normal. The proper play is to take at least one club less than normal for the yardage.
After the proper club selection and taking the right address position, focus on keeping your weight on the downhill foot and swing the clubhead along the slope of the hill to produce a solid shot.
