The Differences Of Address And Impact
The greatest feeling in golf is dead solid perfect impact. Creating that feeling requires many positive things to happen.
Impact is the moment of truth. Arriving at impact in a solid position will create the correct clubhead speed, path, plane, face position and angle of attack, along with a flat left wrist.
At impact the positions of the club and the body are much different than at address.
Let's look at the components that make up a great impact position--and the differences in these components from address.
* Weight is shifted towards the left foot, with the right heel coming off the ground.
* Right heel is slightly in front of the toe. [A power position in golf.]
* As you move forward, the right knee is kicking forward and out past the golf ball.
* The right knee, right hip and the right elbow are in-line with each other. [A great position to check in the mirror.]
* Left wrist is flat or slightly bowed, never cupped. To hit the ball hard with power your right wrist is cocked back or slightly cupped.
* The hands move three to five inches forward from their original address position.
* The left knee is in the process of straightening and moving into a braced position.
* Weight has shifted about 75 percent towards the left side.
* The left hip bumps forward indicating there is lateral motion in the downswing.
* The hips have opened approximately 30 degrees while the shoulders are still relatively square to the target line.
The only things that come back at impact to the same position as at address are the right wrist and position of the head, everything else is different.

My mother lovingly tells me that God willed very much that I come into this world because I came as a "happy surprise" to both my parents, having been conceived only 4 months after my older brother had been ... >>read more
