Conquering Uphill And Downhill Lies
In golf, you will face a variety of difficult shots. Very rarely do you have a perfectly flat lie. Uneven lies include uphill and downhill lies and sidehill lies, where the ball is either above or below your feet.
Depending on the situation, ball flight from an uneven lie will differ from that of a flat lie. As long as you are aware of the differences there isn't any reason you can't become more confident when faced with an uneven lie.
All of the necessary changes take place in the address position. When faced with a shot from either an uphill or downhill lie take several practice swings to get a feel for the situation, use only 75 percent of maximum effort in your tempo and rhythm and use a three-quarter length backswing
For an uphill lie:
* Position ball forward in stance [toward the high foot]
* Tilt body to match the slope of the hill Swing along the slope
* Use a less lofted club-the trajectory of the ball will fly higher than normal
For a downhill lie:
* Position ball back in stance [toward the high foot]
* Tilt body to match the slope of the hill
* Swing along the slope
* Use a more lofted club-the trajectory of the ball will fly lower than normal.
